Keith Halman fishes for Cod, Whiteys and Flatties at Black Caves on Hall Beach, Seaham, Co. Durham.

Preferred bait is Lugworm (tipped with Whiteworm if you can get it!), or crab. Best time is after dark and in rough seas.

Keith usually casts around 120 yards from shore, but isn’t convinced that long casts are always necessary and knows of plenty of cases where short casts have landed big fish.

Cod can be over 10 lbs, whiteys over 3 lb and flatties around 2 lb. Keith hauled his biggest Cod yet (nearly 12 lbs he reckons) on this spot just before Christmas, but it broke loose in the rough surf only yards from the shore!

Accessibility: The cliffs along this stretch of coastline are steep and impassible. But Hall Beach offers easy access by either steps or ramps from the large car park near the centre of the beach.
