A remote and very beautiful, clear flowing, fair-sized river that flows off the slopes of the immense Ichinskaya Volcano in western Kamchatka.

Access to upper river forks by helicopter from town of Esso, skirting the immense and impressive, snow-capped volcano. Put-in on any one of three swift forks, to float quickly through the mountains on this very scenic river. Good fishing for salmon (lots of chums, sockeye and pink, some coho and maybe Masu?). Excellent fishing for big rainbow trout and charr (mostly dollies and some Kundzha. Lots of wildlife-bears, ducks and eagles.

Can be flyfished for much of its length, but intermittent large deep pools from mid-section down would best be probed with spinning gear.

This river fishes best in August and September.

If you are contemplating a fly fishing vacation on some of the world’s wildest waters and need help deciding exactly where and when to go and who to go with, please check out our site.

Widely considered to be Alaska’s most scenic seaside town, Sitka is set on the outer banks of Baranof Island on the waterways of the Inside Passage. Mt. Edgecumbe, an extinct, snowcapped volcano that bears a striking resemblance to Japan’s Mt. Fuji, presides over the landscape, while Tongass National Forest, with its massive stands of western hemlock and Sitka spruce delivers magnificent views of the Alaskan wilderness. As the only community in southeastern Alaska that fronts the Pacific Ocean, Sitka looks out over a waterscape dotted with heavily wooded islands, one of which, Apple Island, is the exclusive home of Talon Lodge.

Talon Lodge has teamed up with some of the most experienced pilots and freshwater fishing guides in Southeast Alaska. Experience some of the most incredible freshwater fishing in some of the most remote locations on earth.

Our freshwater fishing trips feature native steelhead in the spring, native rainbows and cutthroats throughout the summer, and a variety of wild Alaska Salmon. The Sockeye Salmon run is in late June and early July. The Pink Salmon run is in mid to late July. The Silver Salmon run is in late August through late September.
