The Bighorn River near Fort Smith Montana is arguably the finest trout river in the world with extremely consistent conditions, gin-clear water, and more and bigger rainbows and browns per mile than any other river in Montana.

The recent water conditions have allowed fish to grow to great sizes and 20 inchers are common here with 22 to 26 inchers being caught regularly.

Come experience the legend and see for yourself why most experts agree that the Bighorn is the best.

Brow Well Fisheries has been successfully hatching and growing trout and salmon from its site in the heart of the picturesque Yorkshire Dales for over 20 years.

The site was established by Jonathan Jowett, but is now largely run by his brother Dr Ian Jowett, who later joined the company to help fuel it’s expansion and development.

In 1988, Clear Spring Hatchery Ltd was set up to cater for the increased demand for their quality fish and after several years was entirely incorporated into the parent company.

The core of the business from these two sites is to produce eggs, fry and fingerling fish for ongrowing in other waters.

The farms now produce over 4 million fish annually, making us one of the largest producers of fry and fingerlings in the country

We specialise in the production of Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Arctic Charr, Blue Trout and Golden Trout, smaller than 10cm (4 inches).

During the Winter months, the Calaveras Trout Farm stocks Rainbows from one and a half pounds to six pounds on a weekly basis. The Department of Fish & Game also plants catchable size Rainbows into McSwain. There are Spotted Bass in Lake McSwain, finding deeper water is the key to catching them. Your basic Bass set ups such as plastic baits and jigs will produce.

Kilcoleman is situated on The Bandon River which flows through some of the most scenic countryside in the South West of Ireland. For centuries it has been recognized as one of the best angling locations in County Cork. It is 27 miles from Cork airport, and 6 miles west of the town of Bandon. The owner combines a life-long enthusiasm for fly fishing having inherited his skills from successive generations of fly angling ancestors dating back to the early seventeen hundreds when his family, The Lamb’s, first purchased Kilcoleman.

The Fishery is privately owned and totals 1.2 miles. We also have access to a further 3 miles of private water 6 miles up stream from Kilcoleman. The Bandon River flows through The Kilcoleman Park Estate which totals 240 acres of park and agricultural land. There are ten named salmon pools. There are also excellent stocks of wild brown trout which average 12ozs with over 1lbs not unusual.

The season opens on the 1st of March and closes on the 30th of September. Fishing for salmon is fly only. Trout fishing is fly only on the whole of the Bandon river at all times.

There is a bag limit of 2 salmon and 6 trout per day per rod. We strongly encourage a ‘catch and release’ policy for salmon hence the limit of 2 per day. Average annual catches of salmon over the past 10 years has been 103. It is difficult to define ‘which month is best’ because sport is very dependent on rainfall.

Kilcoleman is renowned for its hospitality. The owners David and Patricia Lamb make a particular effort to make their guests feel at home. Kilcoleman is just one of a few private fisheries which only permits fly for salmon throughout the entire season. If you require a memorable holiday in a peaceful, un-spoilt environment, with an abundance of wild life, and the added bonus of Irish Hospitality, and all at an affordable price, then Kilcoleman can offer you something quite unique

If you are interested in flyfishing in Ireland on private water with all the associated benefits then please ‘cast your line’ through our site

I have fly fished the rivers and lakes of Taupo and the central north island for over twenty years and have been a full time guide for eleven of them, in this time I have gained a wealth of local knowledge. With this knowledge and time on the water I can arrange and guide you on an unforgettable angling experience.

Local Rivers [May - December]

Fly fishing for hard fighting wild trout on their annual migration from lake Taupo to the head waters of its tributaries, these fish have an average weight of 4 to 5lb.

Floating line and upstream nymph is the preferred method.

Fly fishing at its best.

Remote Wilderness Streams[October-May]

These streams offer more challenging fly fishing where you can test your skill on wild Trout just waiting for a well presented dry fly or nymph.

These streams run through some of the most scenic country in the central north island. Transport is by 4×4 vehicles or helicopter.

Whangapeki Station [October-May]

3,000 acres of private land and river runs through it. This area offers some of the best drive to water I know, you can even stay over night in very comfortable cabins, the evening rise can be exceptional. This ranch also offers small game hunting for rabbits, hare and turkey, and for the more serious hunter, free range hunting for red deer.

Lake Otamangakau [December - April]

This small hydro lake produces some of the largest wild trout I have caught anywhere, the largest of these was a 34 inch 17.5lb rainbow. The food in this lake is insect based so casting small nymphs and dry flies on very long leaders is the most successful method. The brown trout fishing from the shore offers some great sight fishing for larger browns that cruise the margins, this lake is also famous for its cicada hatch with a little breeze these large insects end up on the surface of the lake, some of the rises can be seen 100 yards away. The opportunity for that fish of a lifetime.

A GUIDE TO FLY FISHING FOR TROUT & SALMON IN ABERDEENSHIRE

What would you like to fish for today? Salmon, Sea trout, Brown trout, Rainbow trout?

The North East of Scotland has a deserved reputation for prime salmon fishing on the rivers Spey, Dee, Don and Deveron. But not so much has been published about the excellent trout fly fishing to be explored in Aberdeenshire.

The River Don is a great salmon and sea trout river, but it is also probably one of the best brown trout rivers in Europe!

Have a look through ‘The River Don’ section of the site where you will find a good selection of water to fish. From very economical fly fishing to the more exclusive beats run by estates and hotels. Visiting anglers are made very welcome at all the venues listed.

The rainbow trout fisheries in Aberdeenshire are some of the best in Scotland. The lochs offer quality, hard fighting rainbow trout in some beautiful locations. Browse the ‘Trout Lochs’ section for information covering individual fisheries, you will find fly fishing from both the bank and from boats and you could quite easily plan a week’s holiday to explore these venues.

The fly fishing information on this website is updated weekly

Read the very latest Aberdeenshire Fishing Reports

Check out the fishing information covering the River Don

Browse the pages covering Aberdeenshire rainbow trout fisheries

Join in the interactive fly fishing discussions

Surf the Fishing Links and Fishing Portal

Book your next fishing holiday

This website has been created to offer visiting anglers the chance to take advantage of some local knowledge. I hope you find it useful

Magallanes Fly Fishing offers in Tierra del Fuego, Chile, the best brown and sea trout fishing in Chilean Patagonia. Rafael González, one of the most experienced local guides and new Cameron Lodge, invites you to fish these fabulous waters, with more than forty kilometres of river to your disposal.

The Rio Grande is the largest river on the Tierra del Fuego island and is well known for its huge sea trout and the solitude of the countryside.

Our Lodge is the Estancia, Cameron’s recently refurbished administration house, built on a high cliff, with a great view over the Darwin Range and less than one hundred yards from the Río Grande. This Estancia has about fifty kilometers of frontage on the north side of the Río Grande (all the way down stream to the Argentinean border)

You will especially enjoy the solitude of having this splendid fishery to yourself with the chance of fishing yet unnamed pools where few outsiders have ever cast a fly

It’s an excellent river for flyfishing, sometimes more challenging and rewarding than downstream in Argentina, due to the different techniques and finesse that have to be employed. The water is much clearer, and maintains it’s clarity, even in higher flows. The fishing is also rewarding because there’s always action.

In this section of the river sea run browns average ten pounds, with monsters up to eighteen/twenty pounds. On occasion we’ll even land really huge fish, well over twelve kilos (twenty six pounds)!!! Unlike the lower Argentinean section of the river, there are also resident river browns up to the six pound class, beautifully coloured fish that readily take our flies.

In addition, anglers will find some healthy, “chromer” lake run browns, with the shape of a rugby ball, that enter the river from the Blanco lake for our enjoyment. And, completing the ‘Grand Slam’, there are rainbows too! You will see them some meters from you, down stream, feeding on the aquatic insects you kick up from the bottom of the river. It’s something to be seen!!!

The fishing season on the Río Grande runs from October through April. In November and December the fishing is very good, but the peak months are January, February, March and April.

Rainbow Trout Hatchery and Fish-Out Pond (Hedley’s Trout Farm) is located in the heartland of Ontario’s West Coast. It is nestled in the rolling hills of the Wawanosh Valley, Huron County, midway between the towns of Wingham and the Lake Huron port of Goderich. The area is blessed with rich flora and scenery. The Maitland, Nine Mile, Bayfield Rivers and their cold water tributary make for some of this area’s renowned fishing.

As our name implies, we are both a hatchery (hatching and grow-out) and an operator of a public fee fishing pond.

Our deep overflowing pond is fed by cold underground pure spring water. Because the pond is spring fed and quite deep, the water remains cool all summer. Cool water allows trout to thrive. The pond is restocked many times a year with trout selected from our hatchery.

Most are rainbow trout 12″ to 30″ (1 to 10 lb.). Brook Trout (Brook Char) and Brown are also stocked as they become available

We have installed an air bubbler to keep the water from freezing in the Winter. Therefore, we are basically open 365 days of year for your fishing enjoyment

We endeavour to remain open all day on weekends and most weekdays. However, we may close around 2:00 PM in midsummer. Trout bite best early in the day and are not very active on those bright hot afternoons when the sun is shining directly down onto the pond. ‘Good beach days are poor trout fishing days.’ A telephone call may be in order to confirm conditions.

Everything you need, beside your rod, reel and bait is provided free (hooks, landing nets, hook extractors and pails).

Fly fishermen are most welcome and an area is set aside for their fishing.

This river is absolutely pristine and one of those about which we say ‘wanders only God knows where’. You cannot see any signs of human presence along the whole length of the river and there is no other way to get there except helicopting.

The Pymta runs in the spectacular Area: stone birch woods give place to willow woods and then to high mountain tundra. The fantastic Pymta River looks as it was created by God for your fishing pleasure. It is teeming with salmon, rainbow trout and char and classic for extraordinaly good salmon and trout fishing. You can measure your strength against the giant King Salmon whose weight may reach 40 kg. This is simply heaven for both beginners and dedicated fishermen!

Kamchatka is a magnificent land with unusual and beautiful natural surroundings. Kamchatka is the place for real nature lovers who measure their impressions not by hotel service and restaurant meals but by something more valuable – the beauty of nature.

Volcanoes, 28 of them active and 160 dormant plus hot springs and the Valley of Geysers are only a small part of those wonders that will leave even the most curious of travellers excited. You can meet here different animals, birds, rare plants and, fish. And what fish! Fishermen feel like in paradise! There are plenty of different kinds of Salmon,Grayling, Char, Rainbow Trout, Steelhead and other fish in the Kamchatka rivers.

Our team came together by good fortune because of love of travel, adventure and Kamchatka’s beautiful wilderness. In recent years we all have been avid outdoorsmen gaining our experience on the rivers and mountains of Kamchatka, Altai, Tuva, Tyan-Shan, Caucasus, and the Urals. We all are welded together in friendship, reliability, a passion for adventure and hunger for discovery.

In the late 1980s we received our first visitors from the Baltic States, East Germany and Czechoslovakia. In 1991 we were the first on Kamchatka to offer a fishing tour for American, Italian, Australian and Russian guests. Our guides have learned well the secrets of fishing on many rivers of our peninsula. Our team is friendly, cheerful and resourceful, guys who passionately love their work. It’s warm and homey, cozy and enjoyable on our trips.

Travel with us gives you many unexpected and unusual experiences leaving you with unforgettable impressions of happy times, luck in fishing, and hearty companionship. Our guests become our friends forever, as it should be, many return to us for a 2nd and 3rd time.

Kamchatka is unusually beautiful and generous with miracles!

The Waitaki Valley is the Gateway to the Central South Island Region, with its main geographical feature being the abundance and variety of excellent fly fishing waters for wild, Brown and Rainbow trout.

Beginning in the ‘High Country,’ these clear spring creeks, streams and rivers flow through contrasting scenery and terrain ranging from snow-capped alps and rugged gorges to wide open grassy valleys.

When these waters combine, they enter a chain of hydro lakes before becoming one of New Zealand’s largest braided river systems – the Waitaki River, which empties into the Pacific Ocean.

The relatively short travelling time between such contrasting waters and scenery is an advantage should weather patterns or conditions necessitate a change of location.

EVENING/NIGHT RISE – The evening Caddis hatch and accompanying trout rise on the Waitaki River throughout the season is renowned. Many anglers who were at first hesitant to participate in this type of angling, became ‘hooked’ – in more than one sense of the world.

SALMON (CHINOOK/KING) – Entering the Waitaki River as early as November, the recognized ‘run’ is from January to the end of April. Optimum period is considered to be during February and March, coinciding with the peak of our New Zealand summer.

SEA RUN BROWN TROUT – Entering the esturine areas of the Waitaki River in good numbers, generally during the months of November through February. Average sizes range from 31b to 8lb but it is not uncommon for sea Run to be landed in the 101b – 14lb range.

Mt. Edgecumbe, an extinct, snowcapped volcano that bears a striking resemblance to Japan’s Mt.
